Operation Washer was referred to the Regional Task Force in June 2005 and involved the investigation of an Organised Crime Group responsible for the theft and sale of a large number of high value stolen vehicles throughout the United Kingdom.
The total number of vehicles involved was in excess of 72 with costs revealing £1,028,579.00 related to the theft of the vehicles and an additional £655,840.00 relating to monies obtained by deception. Vehicle searches also resulted in the recovery of approximately 150 Ecstasy tablets, sixteen .22 bullets and a number of shotgun cartridges. A safety deposit box in Knightsbridge, London was searched during the operation and £715.000 in cash was recovered.
In December 2006, thirteen people were sentenced for conspiracy to steal and two for money laundering.
